With this aim, manufacturers basically offer us two technologies , which we will apply depending on several parameters to consider, which are the following:
1. Conventional fire detection systems
They are ideal for small, low-complexity installations or for large open areas.
Where it is not strictly necessary to know which detector triggered the alarm. The main feature of these systems is the ability to group several elements, such as detectors or fire alarm buttons, into zones , so that in case of an alarm we will know which zone the potential fire is in, but we will not have information about the specific detector that triggered the alarm.
This technology is not recommended for use in large facilities or those with a complex layout, a large number of offices, different production and storage areas, and which therefore present difficulties in detecting the location of the fire quickly.
2. Analog detection systems
They are especially recommended for large facilities or those with a more complex layout, a large number of offices, different production and storage areas, different risks, etc…
These systems allow you to obtain the exact location of any incipient fire immediately , since each and every one of its components, detectors, push buttons, etc., are in constant communication with the system management center.
Furthermore, they allow integration through a plan management software in the form of a synoptic view that will show us the building or area of the building where a hypothetical fire alarm occurs, the icon of the element that has generated it and even the procedure to follow in each case.
In case of alarm or breakdown, video files can be linked indicating the way to reach the equipment or the evacuation route.
The graphical representation of the detector’s condition will be in real time, thus allowing for a quick assessment of the alarm’s evolution and enabling actions to be taken on the siren modules, even before the control panel initiates the evacuation process.
Either technology allows us to connect different types of detectors:
- Optical detectors: especially recommended for clean areas where rapid detection is required, offices, laboratories, server rooms, etc…
- Thermal detectors: for installation in areas where gases from engine combustion may accumulate, parking garages, boiler rooms, etc…
- Flame detectors: for special applications that require flame detection, for example in some production processes.
- Duct smoke detectors: for ventilation ducts.
- Detection using aspiration systems: especially recommended for critical areas due to the difficulty of subsequent maintenance, transformers, electrical panels, non-accessible false ceilings, etc…
- Temperature sensor cable: allows the detection of significant temperature increases in electrical trays or similar.
- Gas detectors: carbon monoxide, butane, propane, gasoline vapors, methane, oxygen, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, etc…
